More about functional psychology
Functional Psychology was established to address a clear gap in the NDIS space: the need for high-quality psychological assessments that reflect the true impact of mental health, trauma, and neurodevelopmental conditions on daily functioning. While many functional assessments are primarily completed by occupational therapists, which is highly valuable for particularly assessing physical conditions — psychological input is essential when mental health, cognitive functioning, or emotional regulation are involved.
As psychologists, we specialise in assessing individuals with complex mental health conditions including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, depression, PTSD, and anxiety — just to name a few. We are also highly experienced in working with both children and adults with autism, intellectual disability, and other neurodevelopmental or cognitive diagnoses. Our training enables us to assess how these conditions affect emotional regulation, social interaction, cognitive functioning, and adaptive capacity — all of which are critical to understanding a person’s overall level of functioning.
By integrating psychological expertise with a strong understanding of the NDIS framework, we provide reports that are clear, clinically informed, and aligned with each individual’s needs. We work in collaboration with other professionals, including OTs, to ensure our assessments complement broader supports and strengthen the overall evidence base for appropriate NDIS funding.
